GREENVILLE, Ill. – The Greenville University women's soccer team battled early but was unable to slow a potent Rose-Hulman attack in a 7-1 setback Tuesday evening at Francis Field.
The Fightin' Engineers struck quickly, finding the net in the fourth minute when Sydnee Schuler converted a chance off an assist from Riley Heasley. Schuler added her second goal of the match in the 11th minute to give Rose-Hulman an early 2-0 advantage.
Greenville responded midway through the first half. In the 19th minute,
Maddie Cooke found the back of the net to cut the deficit to 2-1 and provide the Panthers with a spark. However, Rose-Hulman answered just over three minutes later as Ally Smith scored to restore a two-goal cushion heading into halftime.
The visitors controlled possession and opportunities throughout the second half, adding four more goals. Makayla Doherty scored twice, while Delaney Untermeyer and Ava Klaus each added a goal to complete the scoring.
Cooke accounted for Greenville's lone goal, while
Brady Unger recorded two shots, including one on goal. The Panthers finished with five total shots and two shots on target.
In goal,
Kadynce Jones was busy throughout the night, making nine saves while facing 32 Rose-Hulman shots.
Rose-Hulman held advantages in shots (32-5), shots on goal (16-2), and corner kicks (8-0).
Greenville (0-4) will look to regroup as the Panthers continue their non-conference schedule on Friday at home against Wilmington.
