LAKE FOREST, Ill. – Greenville University opened the 2026 season on Saturday afternoon at Farwell Field, falling to Lake Forest College, 77-14.
The Foresters struck early and often, building a 42-0 halftime advantage behind an explosive offense that totaled 629 yards and scored touchdowns on their first nine possessions.
Quarterback Ethan Springer led the attack, throwing for 360 yards and four touchdowns while adding a rushing score.
Despite the difficult result, Greenville continued to compete throughout the contest and found success offensively late in the game.
The Panthers finished with 325 yards of total offense, including 139 rushing yards.
Running back
Jashaun McKinley provided the biggest highlight of the afternoon, breaking free for a 72-yard touchdown run on the opening play of the fourth quarter. McKinley finished with a game-high 109 rushing yards on nine carries, averaging 12.1 yards per attempt.
Greenville added another score midway through the final period when quarterback
Brayden Huber connected with
Tarion Wilbourn for a 37-yard touchdown pass. Wilbourn led the Panthers' receiving corps with three receptions for 64 yards and a touchdown.
The Panthers utilized three quarterbacks throughout the game. Huber threw for 64 yards and a touchdown, while
Brendan Martin added 62 passing yards and
Breylan Dewberry contributed 60 yards through the air.
Greenville's passing attack totaled 186 yards with no interceptions.
Defensively,
Julian O'Malley paced Greenville with a team-high 10 tackles, while
Jamarion Cobbins added seven stops. Jayden Hogan and
Jayden Morris each recorded six tackles, and
Dylan Maxwell registered the Panthers' lone sack of the afternoon.
Greenville showed resilience in the fourth quarter, scoring twice and outgaining Lake Forest 139-113 over the final 15 minutes. The Panthers also finished the game without a turnover.
Greenville (0-1) will look to bounce back next week as it continues its non-conference schedule at home against Lakeland.
