DECATUR & GREENVILLE, Ill. – The Greenville softball team had a four-game stretch this weekend, highlighted by a dominant Senior Day sweep of Principia after facing tough competition against Hope.
How it Happened:
The Panthers opened the weekend on the road against Hope, dropping both contests despite competitive efforts at the plate.
In game one, Greenville managed just two hits, with
Ashlyn Colvis driving in the lone run in a 9-1 loss. The second game saw a much stronger offensive showing, as Greenville jumped out to a 2-0 lead behind RBI hits from Colvis and
Brooklyn Garrett. Garrett led the Panthers with three hits and two RBIs, while the team totaled nine hits overall. However, Hope rallied late, scoring three runs over the final two innings to edge Greenville 4-3.
Returning home for Senior Day, the Panthers flipped the script in dominant fashion against Principia. Greenville erupted for 10 runs in the opener, powered by home runs from
Emma Longcor,
Kelsey Martlage, and
Sarah Salas. Martlage led the way with four RBIs, while Salas was strong in the circle, tossing three scoreless innings in the 10-0 victory.
The celebration continued in game two as Greenville delivered an explosive 29-0 win. The Panthers scored 17 runs in the first inning alone, capitalizing on timely hitting and defensive miscues.
Kayla Kocher and
Madison Lupton led the offensive surge, combining for nine RBIs, while multiple players contributed in a complete team effort.
Greenville's strong Senior Day performances showcased the team's resilience and offensive firepower as they look ahead to continued conference play.
