MELBOURNE, Fla. - The softball team continued its strong spring break campaign on Friday, earning a pair of victories behind timely hitting and another strong outing from pitcher
Kayla Kocher.
How it Happened:
In the opener, Greenville jumped out early and never looked back in an 8–5 win over Hartford. The Panthers plated three runs in the first inning, highlighted by RBI singles from
Ashlyn Colvis and
Sarah Salas before
Anna Cox added a sacrifice fly to make it 3–0. Greenville continued to apply pressure in the second when
Kelsey Martlage drove in
Emma Williams with an RBI single.
The Panthers broke the game open in the fourth inning.
Rylee Bloomer delivered a two-run single to left field, and Colvis later added an RBI groundout to extend the lead to 7–1.
Greenville totaled nine hits in the contest, with Bloomer leading the way with two hits and two RBIs while Colvis drove in three. Kocher earned the win in the circle, allowing two runs across four innings.
Greenville followed with another tight victory, defeating Grinnell 4–3 in the nightcap to improve to 11–3 on the season. After trailing early, the Panthers responded in the third inning when
Anna Cox drove in a run with a single and Kocher followed with an RBI groundout to take a 2–1 lead.
Grinnell briefly reclaimed the lead in the fourth, but Greenville answered immediately.
Makenna Budde blasted a game-tying solo home run before Colvis delivered the go-ahead RBI single later in the inning.
Kocher closed the door over the final five innings to secure her second win of the day and improve to 5–1.
