MELBOURNE, Fla. - Greenville softball delivered an impressive showing on Wednesday and Thurdsay of its Florida trip, winning three of four games and improving to 9–3 overall with victories over Monmouth (Ill.), Franciscan, and Muskingum.
How it Happened:
On Wednesday, the Panthers opened the stretch with a strong 7–3 win over Monmouth. Greenville jumped out early in the first inning when
Ashlyn Colvis drove in a run before
Sarah Salas blasted a two-run homer to give the Panthers a 3–0 lead. Greenville added insurance in the fifth with RBI hits from
Kelsey Martlage,
Aylexis Otto, and
Emma Williams. The Panthers totaled 12 hits, while
Kayla Kocher earned the win with four scoreless innings of relief.
In the second game of the day, Greenville battled in a tightly contested matchup with Marietta but came up just short in extra innings, falling 6–5. Salas delivered a two-run single in the first inning, while
Emma Longcor and Williams added RBI hits to build a 4–0 lead. Marietta rallied late, eventually scoring the winning run in the eighth.
On Thursday, the Panthers bounced back in dominant fashion with a 13–2 run-rule victory over Franciscan. Greenville erupted for eight runs in the fifth inning, highlighted by RBI hits from Martlage and
Emerald Watson. Williams scored three runs as the Panthers piled up 13 runs on nine hits.
Lauren Kehl picked up the win, allowing just two hits in five innings.
Greenville closed with a key 4–3 victory over previously undefeated Muskingum. After falling behind early, Colvis delivered a two-run triple to spark a three-run third inning.
Brooklyn Garrett later drove in the go-ahead run with a triple in the sixth. Salas went the distance in the circle, striking out five to secure the win.
