MELBOURNE, Fla. - Softball split a pair of games Tuesday at the Space Coast Spring Games, falling to Nebraska Wesleyan before bouncing back with a strong win over Wheaton (Ill.).
How it Happened:
In the opener, the Panthers dropped an 8–1 decision despite a solid pitching effort early from
Sarah Salas.
Nebraska Wesleyan struck first with a solo home run in the second inning, but Greenville quickly responded when
Anna Cox launched a solo homer to left field to tie the game at 1–1.
The Panthers managed five hits in the contest, including singles from
Ashlyn Colvis,
Emma Longcor,
Kelsey Martlage, and Salas. Nebraska Wesleyan pulled away late with a five-run sixth and three more runs in the seventh.
Greenville responded in the afternoon with a 5–3 victory over Wheaton. The Panthers jumped ahead in the second inning when
Emma Williams ripped a two-run triple down the left field line to score
Kayla Kocher and
Jayden Zamora.
Cox added an RBI single in the fifth to extend the lead before Greenville tacked on two more runs in the sixth.
Makenna Budde delivered an RBI double and later scored on a wild pitch to give the Panthers a comfortable advantage.
Kocher earned the complete-game win in the circle, allowing three runs while striking out seven. Offensively, Zamora led Greenville with three hits, while Williams finished with two hits and two RBIs as the Panthers improved to 6–2 on the season.
