GREENVILLE, Ill. – The women's soccer team put forth a determined team effort in a tightly contested 1-0 loss to #25-ranked, Calvin on Saturday afternoon. Goalkeeper
Madison Ashford stood out once again with six crucial saves, keeping the Panthers within striking distance throughout the match.
How it Happened:
1st Half
Greenville started strong with disciplined defensive organization and confident goalkeeping from Ashford, who made two key saves in the opening five minutes. Ashford continuously confronted oncoming attackers, putting her body on the line to stop the ball.
Despite Calvin taking a 1-0 lead in the 14th minute, the Panthers responded with energy, highlighted by a solid performance from
Idaly Valenzuela and
Avery Rahden. Late in the half, Valenzuela fired a shot just wide, and Rahden nearly equalized with a long-range effort in the final minute before halftime.
2nd Half
The Panthers stayed aggressive, earning several corners and applying steady pressure. Ashford came up big again with back-to-back saves in the 74th and 75th minutes. Greenville used fresh legs throughout the half, with
Peyton Turner,
Maddie Cooke, and
Sarina Castillo pushing the tempo. Despite their energy and effort, the Panthers couldn't find the tying goal.
