ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Greenville men's soccer battled hard but came up short in a 4-0 loss to WashU on Tuesday night. Despite the result, the Panthers showed determination and received strong efforts from their goalkeepers throughout the match.
How it Happened:
1st Half
WashU opened the scoring in the 8th minute and doubled their lead in the 33rd, but Greenville goalkeeper
Dominick Messer kept the Panthers in the match with three key saves, including a nice save to deny a well placed shot in the 42nd minute.
Greenville rotated in fresh legs, in search of attacking momentum but couldn't find the breakthrough before halftime.
2nd Half
Greenville opened the second half with renewed energy, making several substitutions to change the tempo.
WashU extended its lead with a goal in the 70th minute, shortly after
Dominick Messer exited after a solid performance in goal.
Miguel Valcarce Gomez stepped in and quickly made an impact, recording back-to-back saves in the 77th minute.
Despite conceding a fourth goal late, Greenville continued to battle, with Valcarce Gomez adding a third save in the 88th minute to cap off a determined effort in net.
