GREENVILLE, Ill. – The Greenville men's soccer team earned a big conference win on Saturday afternoon, holding off Webster 3–2 in an intense matchup at Francis Field. The Panthers used quick responses and clutch play on both ends of the field to secure the result.
How it Happened:
Greenville struck first in the 17th minute when
Gabriel Sule cleaned up a chance in front of goal after a setup from
Richard Kerwer.
Though Webster equalized in the 25th minute, Greenville wasted no time reclaiming the lead. Just one minute later,
Andres Garcia buried a shot off a crisp assist from
Juan Fernandez to make it 2–1.
Greenville kept the pressure on with multiple shots on target before the half, but Webster's keeper came up with key saves to keep the score 2-1 heading into the break.
After the break, the Panthers extended their lead in the 53rd minute when Kerwer and Sule connected again, this time with Kerwer converting the chance to make it 3–1.
Webster clawed one back in the 69th minute, but Greenville's defense held firm the rest of the way, with goalkeeper
Tian Poyo making several key saves to secure the 3-2 win.
