CARLINVILLE, Ill. – The men's soccer came out on top in a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Blackburn on Saturday afternoon, thanks to timely goals and an outstanding performance in net by
Tian Poyo.
How it Happened:
1st Half
Despite early pressure from Blackburn, Greenville goalkeeper Poyo was sharp, recording four saves in the opening thirty minutes.
The Panthers broke through in the 28th minute when
Gabriel Sule found the back of the net, capitalizing on Greenville's first real chance of the match. The defense held strong, with Poyo adding another pair of saves to preserve the lead heading into halftime.
2nd Half
Just three minutes after the break,
Izan Gonzalez Rivera doubled Greenville's lead with a composed finish off a well-placed assist from
William Carlson Webb. The Panthers continued to apply pressure and create chances, including a shot on goal from Juarez and another effort from Gonzalez Rivera.
While Blackburn pulled one back in the 81st minute, Greenville's back line stayed disciplined in the final stretch to seal the win.
