GREENVILLE, Ill. - Women's volleyball opened SLIAC play in dominant fashion Saturday, sweeping Spalding 25-12, 25-21, 25-15 inside H.J. Long Gymnasium. The Panthers improved to 6-6 overall and 1-0 in conference action, while Spalding slipped to 2-7 (1-1 SLIAC).
How it Happened:
From the opening set, Greenville controlled the pace with efficient offense and steady defense.
Abby Grohmann powered the attack with thirteen kills, while
Elaina Evers added nine kills on a blistering .500 hitting percentage.
Mia deJesus and
Kennedy Legendre chipped in with five and six kills, respectively, keeping Spalding's defense off balance.
Setter
Emma Ratermann directed the offense with 34 assists and six service aces, sparking runs that sealed each set.
Defensively, the Panthers stood tall at the net, recording fourteen block assists, while Grohmann anchored the back row with eleven digs.
Libero
Claudia Bonacorsi also excelled, recording eight digs and six aces.
Greenville's balance and consistency proved too much, securing a statement win to launch their conference season.
