Football's home opener cut short by weather after dominant first quarter

GREENVILLE, Ill. – The Panthers kicked off their 2025 home season with an electrifying start against Lyon before the game was halted early due to inclement weather. Greenville led 21-7 after a dominant first quarter that showcased their explosive offense and special teams.

How it Happened:

Greenville struck first with Terrel Graves powering in a one-yard touchdown run following a sustained eight-play, 73-yard drive.

Shortly after, quarterback Max Lynch connected with LaShawn Williams on a 68-yard touchdown pass, putting Greenville up 14-0.

Lyon responded late in the quarter with a 5-yard touchdown rush to cut the deficit to 14-7.

However, Greenville's special teams took over when Jashaun McKinley returned the ensuing kickoff seventy yards for a touchdown, extending the Panthers' lead to 21-7.

Unfortunately, worsening weather forced an early end to the contest, but Greenville's impressive start in their home opener left fans optimistic about the season ahead.

Up Next:

Greenville (1-1) will be at home Saturday, Oct. 4 at 1:00 p.m. to take on Westminster.
