GREENVILLE, Ill. - Greenville men's soccer earned a gritty 2-1 victory over Central (IA) on Monday afternoon at Francis Field, evening their record at 1-1 on the season.
How it Happened:
The Panthers struck first in the 18th minute when a Central miscue resulted in an own goal, giving Greenville early momentum.
After halftime, Greenville continued to pressure and was rewarded when
Andres Garcia confidently buried a penalty kick in the 75th minute, doubling the lead.
Central responded quickly with a free kick strike just three minutes later, but Greenville's defense, anchored by goalkeeper
Tian Poyo and his five saves, held strong down the stretch.
Despite being outshot 10-6, the Panthers capitalized on their chances and stayed disciplined against Central's aggressive attack.
