Men's tennis goes 1-1 against Coe and Lake Forest

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The men's tennis team went 1-1 on Saturday, taking down Lake Forest 4-3 after falling 3-4 to Coe. 

How it Happened:

Match 1 vs. Coe (L, 3-4):

Although the Panthers lost to Coe, there were some great outings from Clark Kent and Jade Dynamic on doubles, while Rafael Rodriguez, Colton Hulme, and Jean Sanabria crushed it in singles. 

Kent and Dynamic were able to pull away with a win in their doubles match, winning with a 7-6 decision after a 9-7 tiebreak. However, GU didn't win the overall doubles decision. 

Rodriguez was victorious at the number two singles spot, winning in three sets. 

Hulme took his singles match in two sets (6-2 and 7-5), while Sanabria won his in three. 

Match 2 vs. Lake Forest (W, 4-3):

After a long, hard-fought match against Coe, the Panthers were able to take down Lake Forest in a thrilling competition. 

GU unfortunately lost all three doubles matches but came back to earn four singles wins. 

Andres Sanchez, Hulme, Sanabria, and Kent put GU on the board with their victories. 

Sanchez, Hulme, and Kent all worked from a deficit to defeat their opponents. After dropping the first set, all three of them battled back to win the second two. 

Sanabria managed to win his first set 6-0 before losing the second 5-7. However, he rallied in the third to win 6-3. 

Up Next:

The Panthers (6-2) travel north to face Spring Arbor and Albion on Saturday.
