GREENVILLE, Ill. – The Panthers mounted a strong late-game surge against Northwestern (Minn.) on Saturday but came up just short in a 17–14 loss, showing grit and determination to the very end.
How it Happened:
UNW built an early 17–0 advantage with two first-half scores and a field goal early in the fourth quarter.
Greenville refused to quit, however, engineering two impressive scoring drives in the final seven minutes.
Terrel Graves sparked the comeback with a 10-yard touchdown run, capping a 13-play, 75-yard drive.
Later,
Wyatt Kile connected with
Cooper Tillman on a 3-yard touchdown pass to narrow the deficit to 17–14, following a 12-play, 74-yard drive.
Despite their best efforts and sustaining momentum, Greenville ran out of time and could not complete the comeback, falling just short of completing a remarkable turnaround.
Defensive Highlights:
Greenville's defense stood tall all day, keeping Northwestern's offense in check and creating opportunities for the late surge.
Elias Velasquez led the effort with eight total tackles (2 solo, 6 assisted),
Jaden Morales added seven (2 solo, 5 assisted), and
Carlis Wilson Jr. contributed six (3 solo, 3 assisted). The Panthers' defensive unit repeatedly pressured the offense and made key stops in critical moments.
Up Next:
Greenville (4–4, 3-3 UMAC) looks to build on this competitive effort as the Panthers are home next Saturday for a UMAC matchup at 12:00 p.m. against Crown for Senior Day.
