Women's basketball splits games at IC

JACKSONVILLE, Ill.  — The Greenville women's basketball team split their games on the road this weekend, earning their first win of the season Friday against Monmouth (Ill.) and dropping their Saturday contest against Illinois College. The Panthers took down the Fighting Scots 66–51 and fell to the Lady Blues 79-66.

How it Happened:

In Friday's matchup, Greenville set the tone early, jumping out to a 14–9 lead after the first quarter before extending its advantage to 31–22 at halftime. Monmouth briefly threatened in the third, but the Panthers shut the door with a 24-point final period, their strongest of the day, to secure the victory.

Amelia Shoemaker delivered a standout performance off the bench, scoring a team-high 12 points, while adding four rebounds.

Lera Schmeink chipped in 10 points and three boards, and the starting unit provided steady production: Morgan Alexander, Alyssa Seymour, and Maddi Basterretxea each tallied eight points. Cortney Brummer anchored the interior with six points, five rebounds, and strong defensive presence.

On Saturday, Greenville stayed competitive throughout, keeping the game close thanks to balanced scoring. The Panthers trailed 19–15 after the first quarter and 33–28 at halftime, but Illinois College pulled away in the third, outscoring Greenville 25–15. Greenville responded with a strong 23-point fourth quarter, closing the gap and showing resilience, but it wasn't enough to come out with a win.

Alexander led Greenville with 15 points, adding seven perfect free throws and four rebounds. Trinity Wade contributed 13 points and five rebounds, while Shoemaker added 11 points off the bench. Brummer paced the boards with seven rebounds and nine points, and the Panthers had multiple players chip in offensively.
