GREENVILLE, Ill. — The Greenville women's basketball team showed grit in its season opener Tuesday night, but a strong first quarter from visiting Loras proved too much to overcome as the Panthers fell 69–51 at H.J. Long Gymnasium.
How it Happened:
After a slow start that saw Greenville trail 31–16 after the first period, the Panthers settled in and played the Duhawks nearly even the rest of the way.
Greenville's defense tightened, holding Loras to just twelve points in the second quarter and thirteen in each of the final two frames.
Senior guard
Trinity Wade led the Panthers with eight points and an assist, while
Alyssa Seymour and
Lera Schmeink each added seven and six points, combining for nine rebounds.
Dru Clark also contributed six boards and four points off the bench.
Despite the loss, Greenville showed promise with balanced scoring and a resilient defensive effort heading into conference play.
