FULTON, Mo. – The Panthers showed heart and determination on Saturday afternoon, battling through tough conditions in a 24–7 setback at Westminster (Mo.). The Panthers' defense played with grit, and the offense found life in the second half, showing the kind of resilience that has defined this team all season.
How it Happened:
Westminster opened the scoring late in the first quarter when a blocked punt was recovered in the end zone for an early 7–0 lead. Greenville's defense responded with several key stops, but a long touchdown pass just before halftime extended the Blue Jays' advantage to 14–0 at the break.
After halftime, the Panthers regrouped and began to find their rhythm. Westminster added a short field goal midway through the third quarter, but Greenville answered with its best drive of the afternoon.
The Panthers answered midway through the third quarter with an eight-play, 70-yard drive capped by a two-yard touchdown run from
Terrel Graves. The extra point by
Pedro Paixao made it 17–7 with 2:52 left in the third quarter. The Panthers continued to fight deep into the fourth quarter, but a late Westminster score sealed the final margin 24-7.
Defensive Highlights:
Greenville's defense rose to the occasion in the second half. Matthew Reese led the effort with eight total tackles (six solo, two assisted) including 4.5 for loss and a sack.
Elias Velasquez added eight tackles (three solo, five assisted) and a pass breakup. Samuel Tillman contributed seven total tackles (four solo, three assisted) and a six-yard sack. The Panthers' front constantly pressured the Westminster offense and delivered a strong showing despite the final score.
