Women's soccer battles with #5 WashU

GREENVILLE, Ill. – The Greenville women's soccer team took on one of the nation's top-ranked teams, WashU, on Tuesday night at Francis Field, showing resilience and heart in a 4–0 defeat. Despite the scoreboard, the Panthers stood tall defensively and gained valuable experience against elite competition.

How it Happened:

1st Half

Goalkeeper Madison Ashford set the tone early with key saves in the 15th and 26th minutes, keeping Greenville within striking distance.

WashU managed to break through in the 20th minute and added two more goals late in the half.

Greenville's best chance came in the 35th minute when Idaly Valenzuela fired a shot just wide following a solid buildup through midfield.

2nd Half

Ashford continued her standout performance in goal, coming up big with several saves, including a sharp stop in the 60th minute to deny a dangerous scoring opportunity.

Valenzuela remained active in the attack, recording another close effort in the 85th.

The Panthers showed strong depth with regular substitutions and never backed down.

Greenville (5–7, 2-0 SLIAC) will be on the road this Saturday against MUW at 12:00 p.m.
