Women's basketball bags two point win at Webster

ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- The women's basketball team extended their undefeated start to the conference season with an 81-79 win at Webster on Wednesday night.

Maria Reinhard found Laura Goodnight wide open as Goodnight cut to the basket for a layup with seven seconds remaining to give GU the win.

Greenville trailed by one point after the opening quarter and outscored Webster by five points in the second period to take a 46-42 advantage to halftime.

The Panthers extended their lead to 12 points with 5:48 remaining in the third quarter, but Webster clawed back into the game and tied it at 74-all with 3:09 remaining in the contest.

Greenville buckled down with a 5-0 run to make the score 79-74 with 1:45 to go but needed Goodnight's heroics after Webster evened the game at 79-79.

Wesley Woodard tied her season-high with 24 points to lead all scorers.

Goodnight added 15 points, and Reinhard posted 13 points.

The Panthers passed out 27 assists in the game, led by Reinhard with seven and Kelly Lenz with six.

Lenz also took honors as top rebounder with 11, and Goodnight blocked five shots.

The Panthers (12-3, 7-0 SLIAC) host Eureka at 1 p.m. Saturday in a game that will have a huge impact on the SLIAC standings.  Eureka enters 1/2 game behind Greenville in the race for the league championship.
