ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Greenville University volleyball turned in a dominant performance Tuesday evening, sweeping the University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy in three sets (25-17, 25-18, 25-11) to improve to 2-2 on the season.
The Panthers controlled the match from start to finish, hitting .269 as a team while holding UHSP to a .045 attack percentage. Greenville also excelled at the service line with 12 aces and totaled 14 team blocks in the victory.
Greenville opened the match with an efficient first set, recording 15 kills on a .375 hitting percentage to take a 25-17 win. The Panthers weathered a tighter second set before pulling away late for a 25-18 decision. In the third, Greenville delivered its most complete performance of the night, hitting .379 while limiting UHSP to just four kills en route to a convincing 25-11 victory.
Sierrah Downey led the Panther attack with nine kills on 15 swings and posted an impressive .600 hitting percentage.
Alyssa Company added eight kills and three block assists, while
Keira Weber provided a spark off the bench with seven kills and a match-best .667 hitting percentage.
Greenville's offense was directed by setters
Kinley Stolte and
Hannah Thompson, who combined for 40 assists. Stolte recorded 21 assists, while Thompson added 19 assists and chipped in two service aces.
The Panthers were disruptive defensively at the net throughout the night. Downey and
Makenna Reckling each contributed four block assists, while Company added three block assists.
Brooklynn Slusser recorded Greenville's lone solo block.
Claudia Bonacorsi anchored the back row with a team-high 15 digs, and Stolte added six digs. Greenville also received solid defensive contributions from
Emily Ruppert and
Abby Grohmann, who each collected five digs.
At the service line,
Brooke-Lynn Mapa and
Mia McSchooler led the way with three and two aces, respectively, helping Greenville generate consistent pressure on the UHSP serve receive unit.
The Panthers finished with 42 kills, 48 digs, and 12 service aces while allowing UHSP just 20 kills across the three-set match.
Greenville (2-2) returns to action later this week at the Franklin tournament on Friday and Saturday.
