GREENVILLE, Ill. – The Greenville University men's soccer team battled defensively throughout the evening but fell 1-0 to Aurora University on Friday night at Francis Field.
Aurora controlled much of the possession and offensive pressure, outshooting the Panthers 19-1 and placing 11 shots on target.Â

Dominick Messer delivered an outstanding performance between the posts, recording 10 saves to keep the Panthers within striking distance throughout the match.
The Spartans generated several quality opportunities in the first half, but Messer repeatedly came up with key stops to send the match into halftime scoreless. Greenville's lone shot came early in the second half when
William Carlson Webb tested the Aurora defense, but the Panthers were unable to find the target.
Aurora finally broke through in the 77th minute when Issa Mnangwa finished a pass from Omar Saldana to score the match's only goal. The Panthers continued to fight in the closing minutes, earning two second-half corner kicks, but were unable to produce an equalizer.
Greenville's defense remained organized under constant pressure, limiting Aurora to a single goal despite the visitors' 19-shot attack. Messer's 10-save effort highlighted a strong defensive performance for the Panthers.
The Panthers (0-2) will travel to Central (Iowa) on Wednesday for their next match.
