Men's soccer drops contest to Illinois College

GREENVILLE, Ill. – The Greenville University men's soccer team dropped a 6-0 decision to Illinois College on Monday evening at Francis Field.

The Blueboys struck quickly, finding the back of the net just 2:38 into the match before adding a second goal in the seventh minute. Illinois College continued its offensive pressure throughout the opening half, scoring three additional goals to take a 5-0 advantage into the break.

Despite the early deficit, the Panthers continued to battle and generated several scoring opportunities. Greenville recorded 13 shots in the contest, including seven on goal. Sophomore forwards William Carlson Webb and Manolo Juarez each put two shots on frame, while Richard Kerwer, Juan Fernandez-Macias Hijas, and Bence Nagy also tested the Illinois College goalkeeper.

Greenville earned seven corner kicks on the night, compared to five for the visitors, and produced seven shots over the final 45 minutes while limiting Illinois College to one goal in the second half.

Goalkeeper Dominick Messer made two saves in the opening half before George Sconyers entered after halftime and recorded three saves over the final 45 minutes. The Panthers finished with five total saves.

Illinois College was led by Oscar Liogon Arenas, who scored twice, while Jives Efemini, Carter Uhlmann, Nate Kapitz, and Brenden Eschmann each added goals. The Blueboys outshot Greenville 19-13 and held a 11-7 advantage in shots on goal.

The Panthers move to 1-5 on the season and will travel to Wheaton for a match on Friday.
