CHICAGO, Ill. – Greenville men's tennis saw its historic season come to an end Thursday afternoon, falling to nationally ranked No. 22 Gustavus Adolphus 4-0 in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament at the University of Chicago.
How it Happened:
The Panthers finished the regular season with an impressive 20-6 overall record and earned a spot in the national tournament after a standout year that showcased the program's continued growth and competitiveness.
Greenville battled against one of the nation's top teams, with several matches remaining competitive throughout the afternoon. In doubles play, the Panthers' No. 2 pairing of
Colton Hulme and
Jean Sanabria were locked in a close contest before the match went unfinished after Gustavus took the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 3.Â
In singles action, Greenville continued to compete despite the final score.
Noah Garcia Barlagne pushed his opponent in a tightly contested match at No. 4 singles, while Sanabria battled at the top spot against nationally ranked Gage Gohl before play was halted after losses at the No. 6, 2, and 3 spots.Â
Although the postseason run ended in the first round, Greenville's NCAA Tournament appearance capped a memorable season and marked another strong step forward for the Panthers program on the national stage.
