GREENVILLE, Ill. - Baseball battled throughout a challenging three-game SLIAC series against Spalding over the weekend, showing offensive firepower and resilience despite falling in all three contests at home.
How it Happened:
The Panthers opened the series Friday with a high-scoring battle, ultimately dropping a 16–9 decision. Greenville stayed within striking distance for much of the game and even held a 5–3 lead after seven innings.
Joseph Guzman led the Panthers offensively, finishing 2-for-3 with four RBIs, including a key two-run double in the seventh that put Greenville ahead.
Hunter Britz and
Jalen Inlow each scored multiple runs, helping Greenville collect 12 hits as a team.
Spalding surged late with a nine-run ninth inning, but Greenville continued to compete in the bottom half, scoring three runs highlighted by RBIs from
Landyn Smith,
Alejandro Martinez, and
Konner Young.
On Saturday afternoon, Greenville struck first but could not sustain the momentum in a 7–1 loss.
Snyder Pennington drove in
Matt Rocco with an RBI single in the first inning to give the Panthers an early lead.
Guzman remained a bright spot at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with a walk.
Bryce Hayes added two hits as Greenville recorded nine total hits, but Spalding used timely hitting and a strong outing from their starter to pull away.
The series finale was the closest contest of the weekend, with Greenville falling 10–5 after holding a late lead. Pennington delivered another strong performance, driving in three runs, while Guzman and Inlow each scored twice.
The Panthers rallied in the seventh to take a 5–3 lead on RBI singles from Guzman and Pennington. However, Spalding responded with a late offensive push, scoring seven runs over the final two innings.
Despite the results, Greenville showed consistent offensive production throughout the series, recording 32 hits across the three games and demonstrating the ability to generate runs in key moments as conference play continues.
