SAUGET, Ill. & EUREKA, Ill. – The Greenville baseball team battled through a four-game conference stretch against Webster and Eureka, showing resilience and offensive firepower despite tough results. The Panthers dropped the weekend Webster series 3-0 and fell to the Red Devils on Tuesday.
How it Happened:
In the opener against Webster, Greenville found a spark late as
Bryce Hayes blasted two home runs, including a three-run shot in the eighth inning. The Panthers plated five runs in the final two innings, highlighting their ability to rally even when trailing. Hayes led the Panthers offensively with two hits, two runs, and four RBIs.
Landyn Smith and
Hunter Britz contributed with a double each.Â
Game two saw Greenville briefly take control behind clutch hitting from
Snyder Pennington and
Joseph Guzman. Pennington drove in two runs, while Britz added a solo home run. Guzman led the offense with three hits, continuing his strong presence at the plate.
The Panthers remained competitive in game three, as Pennington's solo home run tied the game early. Greenville's pitching kept things close into the later innings, but Webster capitalized on key opportunities to pull away. GU saw key contributions from Hayes and Smith with a double from Hayes and a stolen base from Smith.
Greenville closed the stretch in a high-scoring battle against Eureka, erupting for 14 runs on 17 hits. Smith led the charge with four hits and three RBIs, while contributions came throughout the lineup from Guzman, Pennington, and
Hudson Alstat. The Panthers' explosive eighth inning showcased their offensive depth and persistence.
