CARLINVILLE & GREENVILLE, Ill. – The Greenville baseball team delivered an impressive weekend performance, taking two of three games against Blackburn and showcasing resilience and offensive firepower throughout the series.
How it Happened:
The Panthers opened the series with a hard-fought 12-8 loss but showed plenty of fight at the plate. Greenville racked up 12 hits, led by
Landyn Smith's three-hit performance and
Bryce Hayes, who drove in four runs. A big seventh inning saw the Panthers close the gap, highlighted by Hayes' three-run double, but Blackburn responded late to secure the win.
Greenville bounced back in dominant fashion in game two, erupting for a 12-1, eight inning victory. After a quiet start, the Panthers broke things open with a five-run sixth inning, sparked by a two-run single from
Matt Rocco and a two-run home run from Smith. The offense continued to pour it on in the seventh, while
Dawson Hope was stellar on the mound, tossing six strong innings and allowing just one unearned run.
Jackson Gurgel closed the door to secure the win.
The momentum carried into game three as Greenville jumped out early and never looked back in an 8-4 victory. The Panthers plated three runs in the first inning behind RBI hits from
Alejandro Martinez and Hayes, then added two more in the second on a
Snyder Pennington double.
Greenville added insurance late, capitalizing on Blackburn miscues.
Jonathan Bowser earned the win with seven solid innings, while
Gavin Ipanis locked down the save.
Greenville's balanced attack and strong pitching performances powered the series win, giving the Panthers momentum heading into the next stretch of conference play.
