Baseball battles late in home opener series against Ill. Wesleyan

GREENVILLE, Ill. - The Panthers battled back in dramatic fashion to win their home opener series, claiming two of three games from Illinois Wesleyan Titans.

How it Happened:

Game one turned into an offensive slugfest. Greenville erupted for eight runs through four innings, highlighted by Joseph Guzman's two-RBI triple and Alejandro Martinez's 3-3 performance, including a late home run. Bryce Hayes added three hits as the Panthers built an 8-3 lead. Despite pounding out 12 hits, Greenville fell 17-10 after a big seventh inning from the Titans.

The Panthers responded in game two with one of the most thrilling comebacks of the young season. Trailing 9-2 entering the ninth, Greenville exploded for eight runs. Snyder Pennington collected three hits and three RBIs, Hayes drove in two, and Colton Oelze delivered a clutch RBI single to cap the rally. Gavin Ipanis shut the door over the final two innings to secure the stunning 10-9 victory.

Saturday's finale brought even more drama. After falling behind 6-0 early and 9-2 entering the ninth, Greenville mounted another furious comeback. Carson Gates sparked the rally with a two-RBI double, Matt Rocco followed with an RBI double, and Martinez delivered the decisive two-run double in the 10th inning to seal an 11-10 win. Martinez finished with four RBIs, while Rocco and Landyn Smith combined for seven hits.

Greenville's relentless offense and late-game resilience powered the Panthers to a statement series victory.
