WEBSTER GROVES, Mo. – Greenville women's basketball went toe-to-toe with SLIAC-leading Webster on Saturday afternoon, pushing the Gorloks to the final horn before falling 67-62 at Grant Gym.
How it Happened:
The Panthers came out sharp, shooting 53.8% in the opening quarter and trading blows in a game that featured nine ties and 11 lead changes. Greenville carried a 39-36 edge into halftime after a strong second quarter fueled by trips to the free-throw line.
Alyssa Seymour delivered a dominant performance, finishing with 22 points and 11 rebounds while going a perfect 12-for-12 at the stripe. Greenville consistently attacked the paint, scoring 34 points inside and adding 15 second-chance points behind a 44-27 rebounding advantage.
The Panthers' bench also made an impact, accounting for 28 points.
Cortney Brummer provided a spark with nine points on 4-of-5 shooting, while
Rylee Hipp and
Baylie Joiner each added seven.
Mia deJesus chipped in seven points and nine rebounds.
Greenville stayed within one possession late, but Webster's fourth-quarter surge proved to be the difference. Still, the Panthers' effort against one of the league's top teams showed their toughness and ability to compete as the SLIAC schedule winds down.
