GREENVILLE, Ill. — Greenville men's basketball outlasted Westminster (Mo.) in a high-scoring SLIAC thriller Wednesday night, earning a 116-112 victory at H.J. Long Gymnasium.
How it Happened:
The contest featured constant momentum swings, with 13 ties and 15 lead changes, and neither team able to create separation for long. Westminster carried a slim 55-54 lead into halftime after shooting 61 percent in the opening half, but Greenville answered with an even stronger second period, scoring 62 points to close out the win.
As usual, the Panthers' depth proved to be the difference. Greenville finished with 78 bench points and turned defense into offense all night, piling up 41 fast-break points and 40 points off turnovers.
The Panthers also knocked down 13 three-pointers and shot an impressive 92.9 percent from the free-throw line, going 13-for-14 in a game that came down to execution late.
Joshua Williford led Greenville with 22 points on 8-of-12 shooting while adding three assists.
Joseph Schreiber-Rivera followed with 14 points, and
Tim Lofton scored 12 with four rebounds.
Elijah Goad added 11 points, drilling three triples.
Greenville improved to 9-13 overall and 7-6 in SLIAC play with the win.
