GREENCASTLE, Ind. - Greenville University women's volleyball put together an impressive weekend performance at the Neal Fieldhouse in Greencastle, winning three of four matches to move to 3-4 on the season.
How it Happened:
The Panthers opened Friday with a hard-fought sweep of Trine, 28-26, 25-20, 25-16.
Elaina Evers led the offense with twelve kills, while setter
Emma Ratermann dished out 28 assists and added two aces.
Kennedy Legendre added four kills, and the team's balanced attack secured its first victory of the season.
Greenville carried that momentum into the nightcap against Dominican (IL), claiming another sweep, 25-22, 25-20, 25-22.
Abby Grohmann powered the offense with nine kills and three aces, while
Mia deJesus tallied eight kills at a .467 clip. Ratermann again guided the attack with twenty assists, while
Claudia Bonacorsi anchored the defense with six digs.
Saturday morning brought perhaps GU's best performance, a 25-16, 25-22, 25-20 sweep over Muskingum, a team entering at 5-1. Evers and Grohmann combined for twenty kills, while Ratermann posted 31 assists and two aces. Legendre and
Lainey Hicks chipped in six kills apiece as the Panthers hit .255 as a team.
The lone setback came in the finale against DePauw, where Greenville battled hard but fell 3-1 (13-25, 25-20, 14-25, 20-25). Legendre led with thirteen kills on .414 hitting, and Evers added eleven, but DePauw's offense proved too strong despite strong defensive efforts from Bonacorsi and McKenna Reckling.
Bonacorsi and Evers were named All-Tournament Team.Â
With three straight wins before the DePauw match, Greenville showed offensive depth, strong serving, and steady setting from Ratermann, giving the Panthers plenty of confidence as they prepare for conference play.
