Softball takes top spot in SLIAC after Fontbonne sweep on Senior Day

GREENVILLE, Ill. - The softball team celebrated Senior Day with a sweep over Fontbonne to take the top spot in the conference, beating the Griffins 9-1 in the first game, and rallying to take game two 6-2.

How it Happened:

Game 1

Greenville extended its dominance in the SLIAC with a convincing 9–1 win in game one.

The Panthers used a balanced offensive attack and stellar pitching to earn the run-rule victory in five innings.

Fontbonne took an early 1–0 lead in the first inning on a sacrifice fly. But Greenville quickly responded, plating four in the bottom half, highlighted by a three-run homer from Sarah Salas.

Ashlyn Colvis led the Panthers with a 3-for-3 game and four RBIs, while Madi Case added four hits and three runs. Natalee Moore and Salas each contributed key RBIs to fuel the offense.

Greenville pitcher Melissa Bernal (13–1) was dominant, allowing just one hit over five innings with two strikeouts.

Game 2

A sixth-inning power surge lifted the Panthers to a 6–2 win over Fontbonne in game two.

Fontbonne had taken a brief lead in the third thanks to back-to-back homers. However, they managed only seven hits and were shut down over the final four innings.

Trailing 2–1 entering the bottom of the sixth, Patricia Rodriguez stepped up to the plate with bases loaded. With a 2-2 count, Rodriguez flipped the game with a bomb over the centerfield fence, giving the Panthers a 5-2 lead.

Valerie Greenley followed with a solo shot to cap the rally. Josie Grunloh also homered earlier for the Panthers.

Sydnee Garrett earned the win in relief, throwing 3.1 scoreless innings.

Greenville tallied ten hits in the victory and remains atop the SLIAC standings.
