Game Recap: Baseball |

Baseball celebrates senior day against Webster

GREENVILLE, Ill. - The baseball team celebrated its twelve seniors during their Webster doubleheader. Unfortunately, the Panthers dropped both games but showcased a lot of grit, fighting 6-4 in game one and trying to rally in the second game.

How it Happened:

Game 1:

A late-inning rally spoiled a strong effort from Greenville on Friday, as the Panthers fell 6–4 to SLIAC-leading Webster despite holding a lead into the ninth.

Michael Gibson homered, driving in two in the second inning to even the score after Webster's early lead.

Tied at two in the sixth, Wilson Decker launched a two-run homer to put Greenville up 4–2, and starter Dax Bailey kept Webster in check through five innings.

The Panthers looked poised for an upset, but Webster broke through in the ninth with three runs off the bullpen.

Ian Wilson (3-1) suffered his first loss of the season, while Greenville's offense was led by Snyder Pennington and George Schneider, who each had two hits.

Despite the loss, Greenville showed resilience against one of the conference's top teams.

Game 2:

Greenville couldn't hold off a red-hot Webster squad in game two.

Miggy Villalobos provided a bright spot for the Panthers, launching two home runs and driving in four runs, including a two-run blast in the sixth and another in the seventh.

Logan Doll also added a solo homer, but the Panthers couldn't contain a relentless Webster offense.

After Greenville took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning thanks to an RBI single from Snyder Pennington, Webster responded with a seven-run second inning and later added twelve runs in the seventh.

The Panthers showed flashes at the plate with 10 hits, with Villalobos and Decker at the lead with two hits apiece.

Up Next:

The Panthers (12-21, 5-9 SLIAC) travel to Spalding next weekend.
