Softball continues hot streak against Rose-Hulman

GREENVILLE, Ill. - The softball team continued its undefeated season with a doubleheader sweep of Rose-Hulman with an 8-0 shutout victory in game one and a 6-2 game two win.

How it Happened:

Game 1

Greenville took control early, scoring in the first inning on a Sarah Salas RBI single.

The Panthers added another run in the third before a four-run fourth inning broke the game open. A passed ball allowed Madi Case to score before Natalee Moore's RBI single plated Josie Grunloh. Salas then launched a two-run homer, putting Greenville up 6-0.

Moore added another home run in the sixth, and Jayden Zamora doubled in a final insurance run to seal the mercy-rule victory.

Destiny Dunlap was dominant in the circle, tossing a complete-game shutout, allowing just six hits with two strikeouts.

Game 2

A five-run third inning proved to be the difference as the Panthers capitalized on timely hitting and a strong pitching performance from Melissa Bernal in game two.

Rose-Hulman took an early lead, scoring one run in the second. However, Greenville responded in the bottom of the third, with Zamora delivering a two-run single before Case and Emma Longcor added clutch extra-base hits to put the Panthers ahead 5-2.

Greenville tacked on an insurance run in the sixth from an RBI single from Grunloh to seal the win.

Longcor led GU with a 2-for-3 game with an RBI.

Bernal (4-0) stifled the Fightin' Engineers, allowing just three hits over seven innings with two strikeouts.
