Baseball takes series against Wheaton (Ill.)

GREENVILLE, Ill. – The baseball team won their series against Wheaton (Ill.), defeating the Thunder in game one and three. Their hard work paid off with Snyder Pennington being awarded SLIAC Hitter of the Week and Dawson Hope receiving SLIAC Pitcher of the Week.

How it Happened:

Game 1 (W, 10-8)

Greenville edged out Wheaton 10-8, securing their fourth win of the season.

Wheaton struck early with a two-run homer, but Greenville responded quickly with a solo shot from Pennington.

Both offenses stayed hot, with Wheaton reclaiming the lead in the eighth. However, the Panthers answered with a three-run rally, capped by Ryan Jackson's clutch two-RBI single.

Ian Wilson earned the win, while Jacob Hammer picked up his third save.

Game 2 (L, 18-7)

The Panthers took control early, scoring three runs in the first and adding another in the second to build a 4-0 lead.

Pennington's two-run double and Matt Rocco's RBI fielder's choice helped fuel the early advantage. However, Wheaton responded with a massive 14-run third inning, turning the game upside down.

Greenville struggled to recover as Wheaton continued to add runs in the later innings. Despite solid performances from Pennington and Jordan Stucki, who each had two hits, the Panthers were unable to mount a comeback.

Cade Buehnerkemper took the loss for Greenville, allowing seven runs in two innings.

Game 3 (W, 4-3)

The Panthers held off a late Wheaton rally to secure a 4-3 victory and the series.

The Panthers capitalized on a three-run fourth inning, highlighted by Landyn Smith's RBI double and Alejandro Martinez reaching on an error to bring in another run.

Wheaton battled back, scoring in the sixth and ninth, but closer Hammer earned his fourth save to seal the win. Dawson Hope received the win, striking out eight over six innings for Greenville.
