GREENVILLE, Ill. – The Greenville Panthers football team delivered a strong all-around performance on Saturday afternoon, defeating Westminster (Mo.) 38–24 at home. The Panthers combined explosive offense, opportunistic defense, and disciplined tackling to secure their first UMAC victory of the season.
How it Happened:
Greenville opened the game with a spark as
LaShawn Williams returned the opening kickoff 90 yards for a touchdown, giving the Panthers an immediate 7–0 lead just 14 seconds into the game.
Later in the first quarter,
Max Lynch broke free for a 34-yard rushing touchdown, capping a five-play, 57-yard drive that pushed the score to 14–0.
Westminster cut into the lead with 2 touchdowns and field goal, but Greenville responded late in the second quarter when Lynch connected with
Noah Ambriz on a 35-yard touchdown pass, sending the Panthers into halftime ahead 21–17.
Westminster briefly took the lead in the third quarter after a defensive score, but Lynch answered with a 20-yard rushing touchdown, putting Greenville back in front 28–24.
In the fourth quarter, the Panthers' offense controlled the clock.
Marco Jackson finished off a 12-play, 90-yard drive with a 5-yard rushing touchdown, and
Pedro Paixao later added a 41-yard field goal to seal the 38–24 victory.
On defense,
Elias Velasquez contributed a sack and blocked a field goal, while
Julian O'Malley anchored the unit with a team-high ten tackles, consistently stopping Westminster drives.
Carlis Wilson Jr. came up with a key fourth-quarter interception, and
Terrance Lawless closed the game with another interception in the final minutes to secure the win.
