COLOMBUS, Ohio. - The men's gymnastics team had a head-to-head matchup against Ohio State and just fell short with a 303.150. Finishing with two second-place performances, the Panthers had some impressive performances against the Buckeyes.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Panthers posted remarkable team scores in the vault and pommel, posting a 54.950 in vault and a 52.050 in the pommel. The parallel bars team followed closely behind with a 49.600.
Greenville saw high-scoring routines from Jaxon Clapper and Sergey Popov as they both landed in second place in their events.
Vault Highlights:
Ricky Mays led GU in vault with his 13.900, placing him in a tie for third.
Clapper and Brayden Erickson followed only hundredths behind with a 13.850, tying for fifth place.
Pommel Horse Highlights:
Greenville's pommel leader was Matthew Roth with his fourth-place showing, posting a 13.550.
Andres Esquival and Mays were next best, placing fifth and sixth with their 13.000 and 12.850.
Parallel Bars Highlights:
In the p-bars, Kevin Laurino was the top Panther at third place with his 13.650 mark.
Freshman, Kyler Hinson, made his debut, earning sixth place with a mark of 12.450.
Floor Highlights:
Clapper showcased his talent in floor, earning second place with an impressive 13.450, while Ethan Poole came in at fifth.
Hinson and Erickson followed suit in sixth and seventh place.
Still Rings Highlights:
Sporting a 12.950, Mays was GU's leader in the rings, sitting at fourth place.
Popov posted a 12.650 to take sixth.
Horizontal Bar Highlights:
Giving the Panthers their other second-place finish, Popov earned a 12.800 to collect the silver finish.
Michael Avery was close behind with a 12.750, finishing third.
UP NEXT:
The Panthers will host their next meet, competing against Springfield at 1:00 p.m. on February 1st. The meet will be held in H.J. Long Gymnasium for the first time ever.
