LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The softball team is headed to the SLIAC championship after defeating Fontbonne 2-1 in Friday afternoon's game. 

The Panthers quickly gained a 1-0 lead after Natalee Moore hit a solo shot over the center field fence in the top of the first. 

Fontbonne tied it up in the bottom of the sixth, but GU prevailed after stringing together a few hits in the top of the seventh. 

Valerie Greenley reached first after singling through the left side and was pinch-run for by Jayden Zamora. Zamora moved to second on a sac bunt from Melissa Bernal and then to third on a fielder's choice. Megan Chapman came through with a clutch hit down the left-field line to score Zamora. 

Sydnee Garrett started in the circle again, pitching six innings and only allowing one run on five hits with two strikeouts. 

Bernal came in for the seventh inning, holding the Griffins at bay with only one hit. 

Garrett earned the win and Bernal was credited with a save. 

The Panthers (33-7) will face Fontbonne again tomorrow at 11:00 a.m. in the final round.
