Women's Volleyball tops Lyon and Blackburn on Saturday in Arkansas

BATESVILLE, Ark. - The women's volleyball team earned two victories at Lyon on Saturday. In the first match of the day, GU defeated Lyon in five sets, and in the second match, Greenville took a three set win over Blackburn.

In a five set thriller against Lyon, Greenville finished with a 25-21, 17-25, 22-25, 25-23, 15-9 win.

Mia Bonacorsi led the GU offense with 17 kills, and Abby Grohmann posted 13 kills.

Kaitlin Murray ended with 25 set assists and a team-high four service aces.

On defense, Chasity Hill and Grohmann each had 15 digs, and Lainey Hicks provided two solo blocks.

The Panthers saved their best hitting effort for the final set when they had seven kills and one error in 20 attacks for a hitting rate of .300.

Greenville finished with 61 kills and 32 errors among their 155 attacks and a hitting percentage of .187.

GU's second match ended with a 25-20, 25-12, 25-17 win over the Beavers.

The Panthers came up big on the attack with 41 kills and seven errors in 102 attempts while posting a hitting percentage of .333.

The second set saw the Panthers collect 12 kills and one error in 23 attacks for a swing percentage of .478.

Anna Beth Vancil and Grohmann each led the Panthers with 11 kills, and Murray provided 22 set assists.

Hill tallied 12 digs on defense, and Mia deJesus posted three solo blocks.

The Panthers (14-8, 9-1 SLIAC) will attempt to avenge their only conference loss of the season when Fontbonne visits H.J. Long Gymnasium on Tuesday night for a match at 7 p.m.
