Women's basketball secures third place with 80-52 win over Spalding

GREENVILLE, Ill. - The women's basketball team honored seniors Ashley Anderson, Alexis Chambers, Payten Morris, and Haven Robertson prior to Saturday's game against Spalding and then defeated the Golden Eagles 80-52 to wrap up the third place position in the SLIAC standings.

Greenville outscored Spalding in every quarter, taking a 22-12 lead after one quarter. The score stood at 43-31 at halftime.

In the second half, Greenville created even more separation with a 59-40 lead after three quarters before settling on the 28-point win.

The Panthers started three of their four seniors on senior day, and Madelyn Stephen came off the bench to provide 24 points on a 9-of-10 shooting performance, including a dazzling 5-for-5 conversion rate behind the three-point line.

Emily Reinneck posted 17 points, and Morris added 14 points and eight rebounds.

The Panthers finished with a 51.7 percent shooting rate, including 61.9 percent behind the three point line.

Greenville won the rebounding battle 46-38.

The Panthers (14-10, 8-6 SLIAC) will host Spalding for the third time in six games on Wednesday night at 7 p.m. in the SLIAC quarterfinals in H.J. Long Gymnasium.
