Softball wins one of two in Thursday slate

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - The softball team split a pair of games on Thursday in Myrtle Beach. Greenville won the first game 4-1 against St. Joseph (Conn.) and then lost 4-3 to Lycoming.

In game one, Greenville received a home run from Kendall Farr in the second inning to take a 1-0 lead.

In the fourth inning, the Panthers added three runs when Desiree Yost tripled to centerfield, driving in Katie Myers and Hannah Hoffman. Yost later scored on a wild pitch.

St. Joseph posted their only run in the top of the seventh.

Hoffman ended 2-for-2 for Greenville with a run scored.

Farr pitched six innings, allowing one run on four hits with four strikeouts.

Maegan Stone earned the save with a scoreless inning.

In game two, the teams scored all but one run in the first inning. With Greenville as the home team, Lycoming posted a four run top of the first, followed by two runs by Greenville in the bottom of the inning.

Greenville's runs were produced by Farr who had a two-run single that plated Deidra Holzhauer and Kayla Zimmerman.

In the bottom of the fifth inning, Jaclyn Belzer scored a run for Greenville on a wild pitch after her lead-off triple.

Stone pitched the complete game, registering seven innings and four runs, two earned, on eight hits. She struck out four.

The Panthers (6-3) are scheduled to conclude their trip with games against Medaille and Clarks Summit on Friday.
