Women's basketball drops first SLIAC game 75-65 at Spalding

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The women's basketball team ran into a hot Spalding squad on Wednesday as they fell in their first SLIAC game of the season, coming up short with a  75-65 final score on the road.

Spalding jumped ahead of the Panthers early, taking an 18-10 lead after the first quarter.  Greenville battled back with 28 points in the second quarter to give themselves a deficit of 42-38 at halftime.

The margin stayed at four points after both teams put 11 points on the scoreboard in the third quarter.

Greenville tied the game at 53-all in the fourth quarter, but they were unable to take the lead and hit the shots they needed down the stretch to win the game.

Morgan St. James ended as Greenville's high scorer and leading rebounder with 17 points and nine rebounds off the bench.

Emily Brandland was the only other Panther to surpass double figures in scoring as she ended with 12 points, and she also collected eight rebounds.

Brittany Lopez added nine assists for GU, and Jantzen Michael managed three steals.

The Panthers (17-4, 11-1 SLIAC) will look to get back on track on Saturday at Iowa Wesleyan in a game that will tip off at 1 p.m.
