Women's basketball moves to 16-3 with win over Fontbonne

GREENVILLE, Ill. - The women's basketball team squared off against Fontbonne in H.J. Long Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon.  Unlike the first game of January that went to overtime in St. Louis, Greenville took control of Saturday's game in the third quarter and rolled to the 73-49 win.

The Panthers led after each quarter, taking a 13-5 lead after the first quarter.  By halftime, Fontbonne had tightened the score to a 32-25 Greenville advantage.

In the third period, the Panthers used 24 points to establish a 56-33 edge and extended their winning margin by one with 17 points in the final quarter.

Wesley Woodard, who was honored after the game for scoring her 1000th career point on Monday against Principia, took honors as Greenville's leading scorer and produced 15 points and nine rebounds.

Fellow senior Jantzen Michael had a 13 point game and captured a team high five steals.

Guards Brittany Lopez and Michael each provided four assists, and Emily Brandland held honors as the top rebounder with 10 in the game.

The Panthers (16-3, 10-0 SLIAC) host MacMurray (2-18, 2-10 SLIAC) on Monday at 7 p.m. in Greenville.  After Saturday's games, Greenville held the first place position in the SLIAC standings with a cushion of two games over Spalding who is 10-2.
