Softball sweeps Blackburn

CARLINVILLE, Ill. -- The softball team won their fifth and sixth consecutive games with a 17-2 five-inning victory in game one, followed by an 8-7 extra-innings victory in game two.

Caitie Opp spun a seven inning complete game in game one as she improved to 6-4 on the season.

The Panthers scored in each inning from the third through seventh innings.

Becca Oldham, Kate Jolliff Rosado, and Cayla Speaks all had three hits in the game, and each one of them hit a home run.

Oldham had five RBI and scored a run with a grand slam, Rosado added two runs and two RBI, and Speaks scored twice and picked up three RBI.

The second game went back-and-forth over the duration of the game.

Greenville scored first, and Blackburn took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the first.

The Panthers tied the game in the top of the second and took the lead with a run in the top of the third before Blackburn scored twice in the bottom of the third for the lead.

The fifth inning ended with a 5-5 score, and the game went to extra innings at 6-all.

In the top of the eighth, Kendall Farr produced an RBI single, and Emi Hug reached on a fielder's choice that scored a run.

The Panthers scored twice in the top of the eighth, and Blackburn only scored one in the bottom of the inning.

Farr gained the win in the circle with over four innings of relief pitching.  She went 4.1 innings, allowing two runs.

Maegan Stone entered in the eighth inning and struck out three for the save.

Oldham, Rosado, and Emi Hug produced two hits apiece.

Beth Mersinger and Oldham blasted home runs.

The Panthers (14-15, 11-3 SLIAC) travel to MacMurray for a doubleheader on Monday.
