Women's basketball closes in on tournament berth with 17 point win at Spalding

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- The women's basketball team maintained their second place position in the SLIAC standings with a 68-51 win over Spalding on Saturday.

Greenville led at the conclusion of each period as they took a 15-12 advantage after the first quarter and pushed the lead to 32-22 at halftime.  Spalding cut into the Panther lead by a point at the end of the third quarter, but a 22-14 final stanza put the game out of reach.

Taylor Paulin provided Greenville with a 16 point outing as she made six baskets, including three three-pointers, and one free throw.  Paulin joined Laura Goodnight as the Panthers top rebounders with six.

Goodnight added 15 points and two blocked shots.

Claire Schmitt gave Greenville a solid all-around performance with 13 points, eight assists, four rebounds, and two steals.

The Lady Panthers (14-8, 9-4 SLIAC) face Iowa Wesleyan in Greenville on Wednesday at 6 p.m.  Currently, Greenville is mathematically alive for the first place conference position as they are two games behind Eureka with three games to play.
