Slow first quarter, turnovers hurt football in 27-13 loss to Eureka

GREENVILLE, Ill. -- The football team allowed 20 first quarter points as they were defeated 27-13 by Eureka on Saturday.

Greenville outgained Eureka 270-264 in total offense, but it's offense gave away the ball five times on quarterback George Harris' four interceptions and a fumble by running back Jonny Pruitt.

The Panther defense was on the field to start the game, and Eureka scored a touchdown on their opening possession.

Greenville tied the game at 6-6 when Harris connected with receiver Derek Greifzu on a 27 yard pass.

Eureka scored two touchdowns before the first quarter ended, including one on a 38 yard interception return.

The game entered halftime with Eureka winning 20-6.

The second half was dominated by the defense by both sides.

Eureka put a touchdown on the scoreboard in the third quarter to take a 27-6 lead.

The Panthers chipped away at the lead in the fourth quarter when linebacker Nicholas Morrow entered as a running back and pushed across a three yard touchdown run.

Greenville's George Harris completed 14-of-29 passes to gain 198 passing yards, one touchdown, and four interceptions.

Running back Hamid Camara rushed 17 times for 52 yards, and Greifzu posted 123 receiving yards on eight receptions.

The Panther defense was led by Morrow and Holden Butler with seven tackles apiece.

Morrow and Colton Faure had quarterback sacks, and Angel Manzano picked off a Eureka pass for an interception.

Greenville (0-5, 0-4 UMAC) hosts Crown next Saturday at Noon.
