Clint Hamel enters his role as Head Men's and Women's Golf Coach with extensive experience in golf instruction, player development, and USGA competition.
A Class A Member of the Gateway Section of the PGA of America, Hamel spent five years as a PGA Professional. His career began at a golf facility in the St. Louis area before helping launch operations at two newly acquired golf courses in North Carolina. Following his time in North Carolina, Hamel returned to Illinois to serve as Head Golf Professional at Governor's Run Golf Course, where he continues to share his passion for the game with golfers of all ages and skill levels.
Throughout his professional career, Hamel has provided thousands of golf lessons and led numerous junior clinics, women's clinics, and short-game instructional programs. His commitment to teaching and player development has helped golfers improve both their skills and enjoyment of the game.
Beyond golf, Hamel has dedicated significant time to serving others through his advocacy and work in substance abuse treatment and recovery programs, demonstrating a passion for mentorship that extends well beyond the golf course.
A native of Greenville, Illinois, Hamel was born and raised in the community and currently resides in Highland, Illinois. He and his wife, Kim, have three children: Paige, a former NCAA Division II golfer; Cameron; and Lucas.
As he steps into the leadership of the golf program, Hamel embraces a philosophy rooted in curiosity, growth, and open-mindedness. Referencing a quote by philosopher Herbert Spencer, Hamel often points to the idea that "contempt prior to investigation" can prevent people from discovering the truth. He believes that first impressions and preconceived notions should never replace genuine understanding. That perspective shapes both his coaching and recruiting approach, as he encourages prospective student-athletes to look beyond assumptions, explore opportunities fully, and discover how the program can help them grow both on and off the course.
“There is a principle which is a bar against all information, which is proof against all arguments, and which cannot fail to keep main in everlasting ignorance - that principle is contempt prior to investigation.” - Herbert Spencer
