GREENVILLE, Ill. – Greenville baseball showed resilience over the weekend, battling Westminster (Mo.) in a three-game SLIAC series and earning a key conference win on Senior Day, giving Coach Carlson his 600th career win!
How it Happened:
The Panthers responded after dropping the opener 6-2 on Friday. Despite a tough offensive night with just three hits,
Joseph Guzman drove in a run in the seventh with a single up the middle. The pitching staff combined for seven strikeouts.
On Saturday, Greenville bounced back in game two of the series with a 6-4 victory. The Panthers set the tone early, plating four runs in the first inning.
Snyder Pennington opened the scoring with an RBI single, and Martinez delivered the big blow with a three-run double.
Pennington finished with two hits and two RBIs, while
Landyn Smith added a pair of hits and an RBI. On the mound,
Dawson Hope tossed four scoreless innings, and
Austin Moses (2-0) earned the win in relief.
Gavin Ipanis shut the door with 2.2 innings to secure his fourth save. With this win, Coach Carlson earned his 600th career win!
In the series finale, Greenville continued to compete offensively, collecting nine hits in a 7-1 setback. Pennington again led the way with two hits and an RBI, while
Matt Rocco added two hits.
Despite the series loss, Greenville's ability to respond with a win and consistent offensive production highlights a team continuing to fight through postseason play.
