GREENVILLE, Ill. - The baseball team moves to 2-6 in conference after faltering against MUW, fighting in game one for a 10-5 loss and losing 4-2 in the second match up.
How it Happened:
Game 1:
A strong start wasn't enough for Greenville, as the Panthers couldn't hold off a late MUW surge.
The Panthers jumped ahead 4-2 by the fourth inning, thanks to timely hits from Matt Rocco and Wilson Decker. Rocco drove in two runs on a pair of singles, while Decker's RBI double gave the Panthers a brief lead. Zack McClease and Snyder Pennington also added RBIs on two sacrifice flies.
However, MUW's offense came alive in the fifth, plating four runs to seize control.
Despite twelve hits from Greenville's lineup, they couldn't match MUW's momentum late.
Starter Dawson Hope took the loss, while the bullpen allowed four more runs over the final four innings.
Game 2:
Despite out-hitting the Owls 9-7, Greenville couldn't capitalize late, falling 4-2.
The Panthers showed promise early, erasing a two-run deficit in the third inning with a clutch two-RBI single from first baseman Miggy Villalobos.
George Schneider and Matt Rocco each had two hits and a run scored, helping to fuel Greenville's offense.
Starting pitcher Cade Buehnerkemper kept the Panthers in the game with a solid seven-inning outing, allowing three runs (two earned) and striking out two.
However, a solo homer by MUW in the fourth and a sacrifice fly in the eighth proved to be the difference.
Greenville stranded nine runners and couldn't break through against MUW's pitcher.
