Baseball kicks off conference play against Westminster and Lyon

GREENVILLE, Ill. - The baseball team kicked off its conference campaign with doubleheaders against Westminster and Lyon. The Panthers fought against the Blue Jays but ultimately lost both games, while picking up their first win in game one against Lyon.

How it Happened:

Westminster Series

In game one, Greenville struggled to contain Westminster's offensive onslaught, falling 13-2 in their conference opener.

Despite an early run in the first inning, the Panthers were unable to keep pace with the Blue Jays' relentless attack.

Greenville's scoring came from a sacrifice fly by Snyder Pennington in the first and an RBI single by Miggy Villalobos in the fourth.

Matt Rocco led the team with a 2-for-4 appearance.

Starting pitcher Dax Bailey battled through 4.1 innings, allowing five runs while striking out five.

The Panthers fell short in game two, losing 9-4. Defensive struggles plagued the Panthers, as six errors contributed to the defeat.

Greenville battled back from an early 4-0 deficit, cutting the lead to 4-3 in the fifth inning with RBIs from George Schneider and Pennington.

Miggy Villalobos added a solo home run in the sixth, but the Panthers couldn't close the gap.

Schneider showed out at the plate, going 3-for-5 with an RBI.

Dawson Hope took the loss, allowing three earned runs over five innings.

Lyon Series

In game one against Lyon, Greenville exploded for fourteen hits and capitalized on Lyon's defensive miscues to secure a commanding 13-3 road victory.

The Panthers struck early, scoring eight unanswered runs through four innings, including home runs from Michael Gibson and Villalobos.

Greenville added five more in the seventh, highlighted by Landyn Smith's two-run double.

Lyon managed three late runs. However, Jacob Hammer's strong 4.2 innings of shutout relief kept them in check.

Markus Isaiah and Zack McClease dominated, both going 3-for-3 with multiple RBIs.

In game two, the Panthers had a tough 5-1 loss to the Scots.

Greenville's lone run came in the sixth inning when Wilson Decker's fielder's choice brought in Isaiah. Despite some opportunities, the Panthers couldn't push across any additional runs.

On the mound, Cade Buehnerkemper battled through 5.1 innings, allowing three runs (two earned) with four strikeouts. Dawson Hope and Dax Bailey provided relief but couldn't hold Lyon off the board.

Offensively, Greenville managed five hits, with Schneider collecting two.
